Reiki and Karuna Reiki
Reiki is a Japanese word meaning ‘universal life energy’, a life force which is all around us in the world. Its origins are from ancient teachings and founded by Dr Mikao Usui in the early 1900s. It is available to all who have the desire to heal themselves. There is no belief system attached to Reiki so anyone can receive or learn to give a Reiki treatment.
Receiving a Reiki treatment is simple: the client lies on a couch or sits in a chair – it helps if the person is relaxed, comfortable and open to receiving the healing energy enabled by the practitioner’s hands which are placed non-intrusively in a sequence of positions covering the whole body. The practitioner's hands can either be placed lightly on the body or off the body or a combination of both.
Reiki is general and will treat the whole person. Many feel very relaxed during and after a session.
As Reiki is not restricted by time and space, and can reach people anytime, anywhere around the world, it is available distantly.
A session generally lasts up to one hour.
Karuna Reiki is said to have a more ‘definite’ feeling to it – it works on the emotional and spiritual levels and can also help one become more grounded. Physical releases are often felt. Some experience Karuna as going deeper and more quickly. |
